Backing those who serve: Cash boost for veterans as flagship Armed Forces Hub receives funding boost

Comments Off on Backing those who serve: Cash boost for veterans as flagship Armed Forces Hub receives funding boost

More veterans, serving personnel and military families across North Lincolnshire are set to benefit from enhanced support, advice and community connections as additional funding is invested in the area’s Armed Forces Hub.

The investment will help expand the hub’s offer and develop new opportunities for members of the Armed Forces community to access advice, support and activities.

The announcement comes as North Lincolnshire prepares to mark Armed Forces Week, with the Armed Forces flag being raised today (15 June) and the Armed Forces Festival taking place at Normanby Hall Country Park on Saturday 20 June.

Cllr Rob Waltham, leader, North Lincolnshire Council, said: “This week is a chance for us to recognise the service and sacrifice of the Armed Forces community, it is also a chance to reiterate the promise we made to offer support – whatever that needs to be – to armed forces families all year round.

“This investment is further evidence of keeping that promise, it demonstrates that commitment in action. Through the hub we are helping veterans, serving personnel and military families access the support, advice and opportunities they need to remain connected to their communities.

“As we raise the Armed Forces flag and prepare to welcome thousands of people to the Armed Forces Festival at Normanby Hall, it is fitting that we can also announce further investment in services that support our Armed Forces community throughout the year – things we know matter.”

The additional investment, funded through the Crisis Resilience Fund, will help strengthen the hub’s long-term offer and build greater resilience into support services for the Armed Forces community. The funding will enable the team to develop new activities, expand partnerships and ensure support remains available for those who need it now and in the future.

Cllr Tim Mitchell, cabinet member for finance and efficiency, said: “This funding will help us build on a successful model that is already delivering real benefits for residents.

“The Armed Forces Hub brings together practical support, advice and community connections in one place. Investing in that approach means we can continue to deliver support where it is needed most and ensure our Armed Forces community receives the recognition and assistance it deserves.”

This investment forms part of North Lincolnshire Council’s wider commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant, ensuring serving personnel, veterans and military families are not disadvantaged as a result of their service.

Alongside practical support, the council continues to invest in initiatives that recognise, celebrate and support the Armed Forces community throughout the year.

Cllr Elaine Marper, cabinet member for customer services, is the council’s Armed Forces Champion. She said: “Our Armed Forces Hub has become an important source of support and friendship for many people, helping them navigate challenges and connect with others who understand their experiences.

“This additional funding will allow us to develop the offer further and reach even more members of the Armed Forces community.

“As we come together during Armed Forces Week to celebrate and say thank you, this investment sends a clear message that North Lincolnshire values and supports its Armed Forces community not just during commemorative events, but every day of the year.”

North Lincolnshire Council is a proud signatory of the Armed Forces Covenant and holds the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Award. The Armed Forces Hub works alongside a range of partners to provide support and opportunities for serving personnel, veterans and their families across North Lincolnshire.
